Customer Reviews for  'Makita BL1830 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Battery'

Excellent battery, better than 1.5
More/longer power and doesn't cost much more than the 1.5 amp style; just a little heavier. No negative issues with it and charges fast. Cheaper to buy 2 of these seperately rather than the double pack, for some unknown reason. Associateeasy pricing is much less expensive then local stores, such as, Home Depot (almost half as much at Associateeasy). Highly recommend for the LXT series owners. If not, get the bare tools and buy a battery WITH a charger, and another battery, or get the great drill/driver set with 2-1.5 batteries and add the 3 amp size as needed. The 3.0 works twice as long and does not seem to have the problems reported of the 1.5 and can be used easily in all LXT tools. Be aware the battery should cool after use for at least 15 minutes before re-charging. I had a 1.5 mysteriously die on me after very little use but it was just out of warrantee.

Excellent battery, amazing life
I was just about to order another battery for my collection of LXT cordless tools, and I thought I would read a few of the reviews. I am really quite surprised by the 1 and 2 star ratings, with people complaining about the short run time life of these batteries. My experience is totally opposite.

I bought my first kit in October 2006, shortly after Makita released this LXT series. I was working at the time for a haunted attraction, we build the entire structure from buckets of sheetrock screws, and my old 12V Makita drill batteries were done, wouldn't hold a charge. I decided to upgrade to an impact driver as well as a new drill. I have used the daylights out of that impact driver, it's one of the best tool investments I've ever made (and I have a LOT of tools!). The original batteries from 2006 are still going strong, I really can't tell that they have aged at all. What I do now is buy another battery every year, knowing that eventually they will start to wear out but this way I won't be stranded with no batteries and having to make the dreaded decision "do I buy new batteries or just chuck the drill and buy a whole new kit". I engrave the purchase date into the battery when I get it so I can track their age. I now have 5 tools in the cordless LXT line, they are all awesome, I use them a LOT. I now work every weekend for Habitat for Humanity and almost without fail every weekend someone is begging to borrow my impact driver.

Not sure what is up with the problem batteries, but I thought I'd leave a positive review. I couldn't be happier with mine, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again (and I do). I actually bought a drill kit in this series for my son a few years ago, he is also very pleased with it.

Makita LI-ON Battery Pack
-Excellent tools.

-Factory defect in the LI-ON battery packs, which in essence, makes the tool package a very bad deal.
Wait until you have the packs for a while, after 6 monthes to a year, you will probably start to notice problems.

-It is true that initially the LI-ON packs last longer on charge than NI-CAD, but in a short time, that will reverse itself,
and the Makita LI-ON packs will go bad. Hopefully for you, they go bad before your 1-year warranty runs out, and you can have
them replaced at a Makita Service Center, for free.

-You will regret purchasing this Makita item because of the bad track record of the battery packs.
Do your own research. Check the YouTube sites with the repair advice, and other postings.
They are correct, there is a problem with the battery packs.

-Check the cost of replacing the battery packs, they are typically pushing $100/ea, if you include tax and shipping.

-Until Makita takes responsibility for the design flaw, and corrects the problem, you would be ill advised to purchase any Makita LXT tool sets.

Great battery
This is a great battery, I use it on the Makita drill, which is only one of the tools you can use it on. New technology from Makita is well designed.

displeased with battery life 1 month after Warranty and the barely work
This rating is about the battery only
Drill performed as expected and has the power needed in a very lightweight drill
But - The battery(s) after 14 months hold a charge for 24 screws (3 inch into treated lumber).
Since it is both batteries I am guessing this is a design "feature".
This seems to be the Gillette model of creating a product with an ongoing revenue stream and I resent being that stream...
Always bought Makita but if they are asking for $150 each year there are better alternatives. Like multiple less expensive brands.
